LA LUCE DELL’ EST – LIGHT OF THE EAST
Io i confini li cerco ad Est.
Li trovi anche a nord, a sud, nel lontano ovest. Quante leggende nel lontano ovest!
Ma ad Est sorge il sole, ad Est inizia la vita, ad Est ho visto per la prima volta la luce o forse, per la prima volta, ho imparato a leggerla ed a raccontarla.
E, proprio come la luce, l’Est non si improvvisa, si ama.
E’ un concetto discutibile, un’opinione personale, ma…..tant’è!

I look to the East. That’s my idea of border.
You can hit the north, the south or the far west border. So many legends in the Far West!
But the sun rises to the East, life begins at East. I was at East, the first time I saw the light or maybe that was just the first time I’ve learned how to read it, how to tell about it.
Don’t play with East, just love it! The same you should do with light.
It’s my personal and disputable opinion, but…..this is it!

Todavia tu pregunta me gustò mucho.
I was at East the first time I saw the light or maybe - TABUN eh eh eh- that was just the first time I’ve learned how to read it, how to tell about it.
This is to explain that my photography was strongly influenced by Japan.
In that Country I improved my sense of light, my sense of simplicity.
In that Country I learned that it’s more important to remove than add.
In this piece of article written by Emanuela Costantini, I explained quite well about this concept.
The American culture and way of life gave me the pleasure of being daring in regard to originality, color, visual impact.
Japan, instead, passed on to me the ideal of elegance, of aesthetic synthesis, of knowing where to stop, of the whispered message.
In fact, the Japanese culture, which I discovered after American culture, “pruned” and matured my artistic language and broadened the topics of my research.

Questa è la traduzione della mia risposta a Rita Gisela, che mi domandava maggiori spiegazioni sulla mia frase: “ad Est ho visto per la prima volta la luce”.
L’ho reputata importante perché si parla di senso di luce e di senso di semplicità, due temi che mi stanno particolarmente a cuore.
Ad Est ho visto per la prima volta la luce o forse, per la prima volta, ho imparato a leggerla ed a raccontarla.
Questo per dire quanto la mia fotografia ed il mio modo di vedere siano stati pesantemente influenzati dalla cultura giapponese.
In Giappone ho perfezionato il mio senso della luce, in Giappone ho perfezionato il mio senso di semplicità.
In Giappone ho imparato che nella fotografia è più importante e complicato sottrarre che aggiungere.
In questa intervista, rilasciata ad Emanuela Costantini, approfondisco il concetto.
La cultura ed il modo di vita americano mi hanno dato il piacere di osare in termini di originalità, di colore, di impatto visivo.
Il Giappone, invece, mi ha trasmesso l’ideale dell’eleganza, della sintesi estetica, del senso della misura, del messaggio sussurrato.
In effetti la cultura giapponese, che ho scoperto successivamente a quella statunitense, ha “sfrondato”e fatto maturare il mio linguaggio artistico ed ampliato i temi della mia ricerca.
Speriamo che Rita Gisela sia soddisfatta.

I confini orientali…………….
concetto pericoloso, quindi affascinante!
L’impero romano iniziò la propria decadenza quando a Roma nessuno era più in grado di dire quali erano i confini orientali dell’impero………. e (senza scendere troppo nei dettagli) anche nella mia attuale esperienza lavorativa l’allargamento a Est non si è tradotto in cose positive………
Però….. “Fatti non foste a viver come bruti, ma per seguir virtute e conoscenza!” (o qualcosa di simile)……….. quindi, ben venga l’Est!

La teoria dei confini orientali degli imperi in stato di decadenza non è affatto male.
Il mio Est però è collegato ad un concetto di fuga, ad una meta da raggiungere.
Tra me e l’obiettivo nessun impero, soltanto un “magnifico niente”.
